Review: Afternoon Tea at The Bowfield Hotel and Country Club

My sister & I visited The Bowfield Hotel & Country Club last week – we had bought a voucher for afternoon tea with a glass of bubbly and spa access for 2 from itison. It was such a lovely & relaxing day! I love their spa, so a little more about this at the end, but first I’ll tell you all about the afternoon tea we enjoyed!

The afternoon tea was booked in the Plumpy Duck restaurant – it has a really cosy log cabin feel which is perfect for this time of year! We were shown to our table by a polite and friendly waiter who took our drink orders – there was a choice of tea or coffee, and instead of the bubbly you could have a glass of fruit juice if you preferred.

Shortly after our food appeared, nicely arranged on the traditional afternoon tea stand. Alongside the usual triangle sandwiches was a lovely mini croissant with brie and chutney. The scone was served with proper cream & a mini pot of Tiptree Strawberry jam. Of course, the sweets were my favourite part! We had a lovely light swiss roll, a piece of tarte au citron, a bite of brownie and a macaron each.

We received lovely service but perhaps they were a little understaffed – this could be because it was a bit of a funny time on a weekday afternoon though and it wouldn’t put me off going back.

It was such great value for money when booked with the itison voucher – this was just £32 for afternoon tea with a glass of bubbly and spa access for 2!

While this is not really about the spa, I just wanted to mention how lovely it is! We have been going the the spa at The Bowfield for years, but recently they have really upped their game by upgrading the spa itself. They have added lovely relaxation rooms as well as a spa sauna and outdoor hydrotherapy pool which look out across the fields – perfect for moody winter days!
